The Grainery Care Food Hub is a community-based food rescue and relief service designed to support people experiencing financial stress across Newcastle and surrounding areas.
It operates from the Grainery Care Centre at 2 Roe St, Mayfield, and is open Tuesday to Friday 11:00am to 1:00pm. Tickets for daily fresh food are issued @ 11 am and food distrubuted at 11.30am. Supply changes daily and may close early if no food is available.
Crisis packs designed to support people who are homeless, fleeing domestic violence or are in financial distress.
The Food Hub is more than just a place to get groceries — it acts as a first point of support for people struggling in the Newcastle region. Staff and volunteers also help connect people to other services such as housing support, financial assistance, and counselling referrals when needed.
With rising cost-of-living pressures, the Food Hub helps reduce food insecurity and ensures people can access nutritious food without shame or stigma. It also provides dignity by offering a welcoming environment where people are treated with respect and can get help without judgement.

We rescue food and are given food from a number of generous suppliers. We bag fresh vegetables and fruit for collection on Tuesday to Friday.
Our Food Hub is located at 2 Roe St, Mayfield (just around the corner from Cafe 252)

We can prepare bags of staples (tinned, frozen and packaged food) bread, fresh fruit and vegetables to get you through a crisis or tough time.
To help us help all the needs of the community we do need identification and a valid pension, health care or student card issues by Centrelink when providing a homeless, crisis or welfare package.

Donations of groceries allow Grainery Care to stock our shelves and continue to meet the needs of our community.
Items welcomed include:
Long life milk (Powdered or UHT)
Cereals
Soups

Sanitary products
These can be left at Cafe 252 or the Food Hub
